What is the maximum number of years I can live with AIDS? What should I be aware of?
Hi everyone, I'm a doctor who works with HIV and STDs at the CDC, and I'm here to answer your questions!
The Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released data on AIDS, as of October 31, 2019, the cumulative number of surviving HIV infections/patients in China has been found to be 958,000, and the cumulative number of new infections detected from January to October 2019 was 108,000, due to the country's implementation of the "Expanded Testing ", so some undetected infections were screened out.
In our regular work, the most common question asked by counselors is how many years they can live after being infected with HIV, so let's talk about this again.
In the past, AIDS was called a terminal illness because there were no medicines that could cure it, and because many people who were infected with AIDS died quickly when it was first discovered, it gave the impression that people infected with HIV would die quickly.
The introduction of the "cocktail therapy" for HIV treatment in 1995 has greatly improved the timeframe for HIV-infected people. For example, Meng Lin, the head of the AIDS prevention and treatment social organization "Ark of Love", who was found to be infected with HIV in 1995, is still alive more than 20 years later and has made many contributions to the prevention and treatment of AIDS.
In June 2016, the National Health and Family Planning Commission (now the National Health Commission) issued the Circular on Adjusting the Standards for Free Antiretroviral Treatment for AIDS, recommending that antiretroviral treatment be implemented for all HIV-infected patients who are willing to be treated. Since then, HIV has been "detected and treated", which has greatly improved the survival time of HIV-infected patients and reduced the incidence of complications.
Since 2010, more and more experts or scholars tend to define AIDS from a terminal disease to a chronic disease, and the 2016 International Symposium on AIDS Prevention and Control less, experts and scholars from several countries reached a consensus to define AIDS as a chronic disease.
Therefore, at present, AIDS has become a chronic disease as long as it is treated properly, and it does not affect the life expectancy of HIV-infected people, which is no different from that of the general public.
No matter what a person has left behind in this world, be it a great man who changed the world or an ant in the world, all of them will eventually return to the west, so we should have the mindset of being open and comfortable with life and death.
What are some things you should be aware of when you are infected with HIV?
The survival of HIV-infected people is closely related to their own habits and so on.
First of all, one should keep a good mindset. It is true that the current atmosphere of public opinion is not so friendly to HIV-infected people, but as an infected person, it is still necessary to look up to oneself and face each day with optimism, because we really do not know which one will come first, tomorrow or the accident.
Secondly, make sure you take your medication on time and as prescribed by your doctor, and have regular medical check-ups as this is the key to treatment.
Third, quit smoking and drinking. Both tobacco and alcohol are harmful to the body.
Fourthly, when having sex with others, tell them truthfully about the infected person and always use condoms. Of course, telling the other person about the infection may face a lot of psychological pressure for oneself, and there will be moral pressure if one does not tell, so my personal preference is to tell the other person. After active treatment, when the viral load is below the lower limit of detection, AIDS can be considered not to be transmitted through sexual contact, i.e. U=U.
Finally, I would like to say that AIDS carries too much social morality, thinking that being infected with HIV is a manifestation of an uncomplicated life, but in fact, how can there be so much social morality to speak of? As an infected person, we must be optimistic about life, and as a general public, we must care for people living with HIV.
I am a doctor in the Center for Disease Control and Prevention engaged in AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases, if you have any questions about AIDS-related issues can be followed me to consult private messages! The good ones can live out their lives in peace, thinking upward, the world is such a beautiful place well live each day.
AIDS is an infectious disease with a long incubation period of about ten years before it is detected, and the initial symptoms are not obvious, and there is currently no complete cure for the drug, so in our daily lives, we must pay attention to personal hygiene, do not mess with the use of needles, do not have chaotic sexual relations, and be clean!
The incubation period after HIV is transmitted is still relatively long, usually seven to ten years. If found early, timely antiretroviral treatment. The onset of AIDS can still be significantly delayed. If HIV is not treated actively, the survival time will not exceed two years. That is to say, HIV infection can generally survive for about ten years.
Even if you have AIDS, you need to build up your confidence in life and be optimistic.
As long as strong and optimistic, improve the body's immune system, you will delay the onset of the disease. So you still have a lot of great time to enjoy, to develop a good work and rest time, do not stay up late to adjust a good state of mind, not pessimistic, appropriate exercise, do not overload a reasonable diet. Do not overeat, less alcohol, less smoking, remove all bad habits.
