The easiest way to recognize Damp-Heat and Cold-Dampness, from what we have studied in our special committee, is:
Look at the tongue - look at the tongue.
1. Look at the tongue to see the tongue texture first
Instead of looking at the tongue (the surface layer), look at the body of the tongue first. For example, the picture below.

How do you determine whether a heat body is based on phlegm-dampness or damp-heat?
Look at the color of the tongue
For example, this tongue pictured above is a distinctly yellow tongue.
Then this is damp heat.
So what color is the tongue other than dark red, look at the next two pictures.
These two tongues, the tongue texture is light or even dark. This tongue, in general, is weak or cold.
This means that the body is weak or cold at the base.
A body that is weak and cold with dampness is different from the two classifications of the hot body, but will have the following three conditions.
1. Simple phlegm-dampness
2. Cold-dampness
3. Damp heat
That is, a hot body will not have cold and dampness, but a cold body, will have dampness and heat.
How exactly do you tell the difference? Also look at the color of the tongue.
Yellow color is Damp-Heat, and white or slippery water is Cold-Damp or Phlegm-Damp.

Symptoms in normal times

How do I regulate dampness and cold?
