It is true that Shennong's Classic of the Materia Medica recorded the medicinal properties of Shengnianxia: pungent, warm; poisonous. But the "poisonous" half-summer recorded in the Shennong's Classic of the Materia Medica is not a poison that kills people like potassium cyanide, nor is it a drug that harms people like opium.

First, the meaning of toxicity of drugs in ancient times is broader, both that poison is a general term for drugs, toxicity is a bias of drugs [1]. For example: "Zhouli - Tianguan Tsukazai" recorded that "the physician in charge of the doctor's orders, gathering poisons for medical affairs." The medicinal treatment of the General Meaning" also recorded that "all medicines are poisonous, not the big poison, small poison is called poison." Therefore, there is no need to worry too much about the "poison" of the raw half-sia in patchouli Zhengqi Shui. Patchouli Zhengqi Shui can be used under the guidance of a doctor of traditional Chinese medicine as long as the diagnosis is clear.

Secondly, it should be reminded that although patchouli water containing raw half-summer can be used safely under the guidance of doctors and pharmacists. However, in the Measures for the Administration of Toxic Drugs for Medical Purposes (Decree No. 23 of the State Council), raw half-summer belongs to the toxicity of Chinese medicine varieties. Therefore, you can't take raw hemixia on your own, and must use it under the guidance of a doctor or pharmacist.

Thirdly, there are five types of proprietary Chinese medicines in the Huo Xiang Zheng Qi category: Huo Xiang Zheng Qi Pills, Huo Xiang Zheng Qi Capsules, Huo Xiang Zheng Qi Compound, Huo Xiang Zheng Qi Water and Huo Xiang Zheng Qi Oral Liquid. Among them, Huo Xiang Zheng Qi Shui and Huo Xiang Zheng Qi Oral Liquid use raw Pinellia; while Huo Xiang Zheng Qi Pills, Huo Xiang Zheng Qi Capsules, and Huo Xiang Zheng Qi Combination do not use raw Pinellia, but rather use concocted Pinellia. Concocted Pinellia is not a toxic Chinese medicine species. Therefore, for patients who cannot tolerate raw Pinellia, they can use Huo Xiang Zheng Qi Pill, Huo Xiang Zheng Qi Capsule and Huo Xiang Zheng Qi Combination.

To summarize, Patchouli Zhengqi Water containing Shengbianxia can be used safely under doctor's supervision. However, Shengbianxia belongs to toxic Chinese medicine and should not be taken on its own.
