Diabetic ketoacidosis is a severe disorder of sugar, fat and protein metabolism caused by insufficient insulin and inappropriately elevated glucagon, with hyperglycemia, hyperketonemia and metabolic acidosis as the main clinical manifestations.Type 1 diabetes mellitus has a tendency to develop diabetic ketoacidosis; type 2 diabetes mellitus can also develop diabetic ketoacidosis, and the common triggers are acute infections, inappropriately reduced amount of insulin or sudden interruption of treatment. Common triggers include acute infection, inappropriate reduction or abrupt interruption of insulin therapy, improper diet, gastrointestinal diseases, stroke, myocardial infarction, trauma, surgery, pregnancy, childbirth, mental stimulation, and so on.
